The Wordpress Dashboard
Every wordpress theme that you choose will have the same dashboard and this is layout as follows:
This is the back-end of wordpress where you can can modify and expand your website and here you will have all the tools necessary to do anything you want with the site on the self-hosted version.
The wordpress dashboard is pretty self-explantory and you will learn it quite easily by just playing around with it, but I have given a brief description of each menu item as a bit of guidance below:
This is the main user-interface for your wordpress theme and here you will find links to enable you to add, edit posts, pages and many more functions.
Wordpress Menu - Updates
This is where you can update the version of wordpress that you are using and also the plugins that you are using. This is especially important for security in wordpress.
Wordpress Menu - Posts
Sub Menu - All Posts, Add New Categories, Tags
This is where it is time to start creating some content for your website.
The quick and easy way is POSTS ---> ADD NEW. This is the quickest and easiest way to start blogging on the wordpress platform.
When you make a post in wordpress it will be stored under categories that your determine or else will be filed under 'uncategorized' as default. This basically allows you to structure your blog so it is more user friendly and also easier to orgranise and keep track of posts.
These basically are the main keywords that your are talking about or focusing on in your blog post. These do not have any relationship to each other in a way like categories might do but will help the user instantly identify what the blog post is talking about. It will also aid with the SEO of your blog when trying to rank for a phrase or post for example.
There is also a widget called a 'tag cloud' which wil be available on your theme whereby you can display all the most popular tags in once place, where the more popular are displayed in a bigger font.
Wordpress Menu - Media
Screens - Library, Media
This section basically will allow the user to manipulate existing Media that has been uploaded to the blog. So here you can edit, delete or view different media files that you have in your wordpress site.
Add New Media
This allows you to add new audio, video and other files to your blog. To use this normally you will need to upload the files first which can then be inserted into the post or page that you are looking to display them in.
Wordpress Menu - Links
This section basically allows you to add, edit and delete links that you have placed. There is also a way to delete multiple links at the same time and also with the normal built in search and filter options for this too.
Add New Link
This one is pretty self explanatory and is just the method used to make a new link
The same way that you might categorise a new post, you can actually do the same with your links which again can help the end user for navigation of your links. There is no hierarchy structure as you are able to do with categories though.
In the Links Link Categories section you are able to manipulate the link categories, i.e add/edit/delete
Wordpress Menu - Pages
Other than having the post as a tool to make content on wordpress there is also an option to make pages but this is where you add static content to the website and therefore they will not have time stamps etc as a post would do for example.
This is the reason that they will be displayed outside of the normal blog structure like 'About Us' or 'Contact Us'.
This is where the user can add, edit and delete pages on the wordpres site. You are able to select multiple pages to delete and edit. In a similar way to
